Paola Talbert is recognisable for her own highly individualised photographic practice..

 

Renowned for her unique and surreal underwater aesthetic, her underwater figure photography is part of a sustained body of work that has featured in solo and group exhibitions in Sydney and Melbourne since 2000. 

In 2004, she exhibited her colour underwater photography at Manly Art Gallery and Museum, and the digital Type C print ‘Kairos (Moment of Truth)’ was acquired by the gallery in 2005.  In 2010, celebrating eighty years Manly Art Gallery and Museum featured the image in the exhibition Eighty Tales from the Vault 1930-2010.   

 

She has worked on photographic commissions; this year in 2012 completing a series of underwater figure photographs for Marrickville Council, for the Annette Kellerman Aquatic Centre.  In 2003, NSW State Government Department for Women for the series; Women of Macarthur/Celebrating Change exhibited at Customs House and Campbelltown Regional Gallery.

In 1999, Broken Hill Council employed her to produce the photographic documentary: Women of the West exhibited at Broken Hill Art Gallery in 2002.

 

In 2012, at the Greenway Environment Prize she attained third place for the print ‘Gyre #8’.  She won the Waverley Art Prize in 2001 and the Gosford Art Prize in 2004, and gained second place in Wyong Photography Prize in 2006. 

 

In 2004, she was selected to exhibit in Sydney Life Photography Exhibition & Prize, part of the Art and About Festival by City of Sydney Council. 

 

In  2007, Talbert was invited to exhibit in the exhibition ‘Faccia Lei – Portraits in Transition in between medias and cultural areas’ at the Spazio Thetis, Arsenale Novissimo held during 2007 Venice Biennale. 

 

She has exhibited at Art Melbourne and Art Sydney, and in 2010 was invited to participate in the Sydney Fringe Festival and CarriageARTworks at Carriageworks representing Alpha House Artists Cooperative.
